WANA (Dec 29) – The Hamas movement issued a statement today (Sunday), refuting claims by the Israeli regime regarding Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination method, the former political bureau chief of Hamas, in Tehran.

The statement reads: “Hamas completely denies all the lies fabricated by the Israeli regime, particularly the claims published today, which allege details of the assassination operation of the martyr Ismail Haniyeh.”

Hamas added: “The Israeli occupying regime has claimed that the assassination of Haniyeh occurred through a planted bomb in his room at the official guesthouse in Iran during his official visit to Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.”

The statement further noted: “Joint investigations by Hamas’ security agencies and Iran’s security services have revealed that this assassination was carried out using a guided missile loaded with 7.5 kilograms of explosives. The missile directly targeted Haniyeh’s mobile phone.”

Hamas emphasized: “These claims by the occupying regime are nothing but a desperate attempt to distract public opinion from this multifaceted crime, which flagrantly violated the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran by targeting one of its official venues.”

This statement was released after Israel’s Channel 12 claimed: “Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chief of Hamas, was assassinated through a meticulously planned operation involving a remote-controlled bomb explosion in his residence.”

The channel also alleged that “given the small size of the bomb used in Haniyeh’s room, he wouldn’t have been killed had he changed rooms.”

The report noted that Mossad agents had discovered that Haniyeh consistently stayed in a specific room during his trips to Tehran. According to the report, the bomb responsible for Haniyeh’s death was planted in his room before the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian, ensuring the assassination caused no harm to others.

Although both Hamas and the Islamic Republic of Iran initially accused Israel of orchestrating Haniyeh’s assassination in Tehran, Israel had refrained from officially acknowledging its involvement until Yisrael Katz, Israel’s defense minister, made implicit comments on Monday, December 23.

Yisrael Katz explicitly admitted Tel Aviv’s direct role in Haniyeh’s assassination, marking the first time the regime officially took responsibility. He stated: “We will eliminate Houthi leaders just as we eliminated Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and Hassan Nasrallah in Tehran, Gaza, and Lebanon.”

Ismail Haniyeh, the former political leader of Hamas, was assassinated early on August 1, just a day after attending the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, in Tehran.

The explosion occurred amidst tight security in Tehran due to the inauguration event, which hosted senior government officials, military commanders, and representatives from 86 countries.
